Cottage conversion, Cornwall: refurbishment and extension of two cottages to a zero carbon family home.
Energy requirements have been minimized through insulation and careful selection of efficient appliances.
Winter heat and hot water is provided by a wood pellet boiler. During summer hot water is provided by solar thermal panels and a wind turbine provides electricity throughout most of the year.
Water consumption is reduced through careful choice of appliances and low-flush WCs. Waste water is treated on site through a reed bed system integrated into the landscape.
