BedZed: A newbuild, affordable housing scheme for the Peabody Trust Housing Association.

Susan Venner was project architect at Bill Dunster Architects from the start of the BedZed project. This national and international award winning scheme set a new benchmark for sustainable design and was the UK’s first zero carbon development.

Features include, all units south facing, high thermal mass, local materials, including many reclaimed and recycled, PV panels to charge an electric car pool and a wood chip Combined Heat and Power plant. The water strategy included water conservation, recycled grey water and a Sustainable Urban Drainage System.
